Kaze View Media LLC takes your privacy seriously. We're travelers too, and we know how annoying it is when a website tracks everything you do and sells the data to companies you've never heard of. We don't do that. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with (spoiler: almost no one), and what rights you have.
What Information We Collect
We collect two types of information: the information you give us directly, and the information our website collects automatically.
Information you give us: When you fill out our contact form, we collect your name, email address, the topic you selected, and your message. That's it. We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry. We don't add you to a mailing list (we don't have one). We don't share your contact details with third parties. We keep your messages in our email system for up to two years so we can refer back to them if you contact us again.
When you purchase our Japan Coastal Drives Map, our payment processor (Stripe) collects your payment information. We do not see your full credit card number, your bank details, or any other payment information. Stripe handles all of that. We receive your name, email address, and a confirmation that the payment went through. We use this information to deliver your PDF map and to process refunds if necessary.
Information collected automatically: Our website uses cookies — small text files stored on your browser — to understand how people use our site. Specifically, we want to know which coastal routes people are reading about, so we can focus our travel research on the areas that interest our readers the most. The cookies we use are anonymized. We don't know who you are. We just know that someone in California (or Tokyo, or wherever) spent ten minutes reading about the Noto Peninsula.
Our hosting provider collects standard server logs, which include your IP address, the pages you visited, the time of your visit, and your browser type. We don't actively monitor these logs, but we can access them if we need to troubleshoot a technical issue or investigate abuse. Logs are kept for 30 days and then automatically deleted.
What Information We Don't Collect
We don't use Google Analytics. We don't use Facebook Pixel. We don't use any third-party tracking tools that follow you around the internet. We don't have social media buttons that report back to Facebook or Twitter when you visit our site. We don't use remarketing ads. We don't build profiles of our visitors. We don't sell data to anyone, because we don't have any data worth selling.
We don't collect your location data. We don't access your camera or microphone. We don't read your clipboard. We don't fingerprint your browser. We do the bare minimum to keep the site running and understand which content is popular.
Cookies We Use
We use three categories of cookies. You can manage your preferences through our cookie banner (which appears when you first visit the site) or by visiting our cookie preferences page.
Essential cookies: These are required for the website to function properly. They include a cookie that remembers whether you've dismissed the cookie banner, and a cookie that maintains your session state if you fill out the contact form. These cookies cannot be disabled, because without them the site wouldn't work.
Reading cookies: These cookies tell us which pages on our site are most popular. They're completely anonymized — we can't identify individual visitors. The data helps us decide which coastal regions to cover next. For example, if we notice that a lot of people are reading about the Izu Peninsula, we might send a contributor there to check for changes. These cookies are disabled by default, and you can enable them if you want to help us improve our content.
Partner cookies: These cookies are only activated if you click a link to one of our partner services (currently, Toyota Rent-a-Car and Times Car Rental). They let the rental company know that you came from our site, which helps us maintain our partnership. These cookies are disabled by default and require your explicit consent.
Third Parties
We share information with exactly two third parties, and only when necessary:
Stripe: Our payment processor. They handle all payment transactions for our Japan Coastal Drives Map. Stripe's privacy policy applies to any payment information you provide. You can read it at stripe.com/privacy.
Our hosting provider: Our website is hosted on a server maintained by a commercial hosting company. They have access to server logs but are contractually prohibited from using that data for any purpose other than providing hosting services to us.
We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, social media companies, or any other third parties. We don't use content delivery networks that track visitors. We don't embed videos or maps from third-party services that collect data.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
Right to access: You can ask us what information we have about you, and we'll tell you. Since we collect very little data, this is usually a short conversation.
Right to correction: If any information we have about you is incorrect, you can ask us to fix it.
Right to deletion: You can ask us to delete your information, and we will, unless we're required by law to keep it.
Right to object: You can object to our use of cookies at any time by adjusting your preferences on our cookie preferences page.
Right to data portability: If you want a copy of the information we have about you in a machine-readable format, we'll provide it.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at crew@kaze-view.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Our website uses HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between your browser and our server. Our payment processing is handled by Stripe, which meets the highest industry security standards (PCI DSS Level 1). We don't store payment information on our servers. Access to our administrative systems is limited to the three people who run Kaze View.
That said, no system is completely secure. If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we'll notify you as soon as possible and take steps to mitigate the damage.
Children's Privacy
Our website is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you're a parent and you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll delete it.
International Transfers
Kaze View Media LLC is based in the United States. Our servers are in the United States. If you're accessing our website from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using our website, you consent to this transfer.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll post a notice on our website. Minor changes (typos, clarifications) won't be announced. We encourage you to check this page periodically.
